Connections Online Quiz League - Structure - Season 6
USA Structure
There are three pools in which teams have been assigned to based on previous performances.
Weeks 1-5
Pool 1 consists of the 24 teams who've had the best records over the previous 3 seasons.
Placed in four groups of six teams they play a round robin. The top 3 in each group move to Division 1. The bottom 3 in each group move to Division 2.
Pool 2 consists of the 16 teams who've had the next best records over the previous 3 seasons and 8 of our brand new teams.
Placed in four groups of six teams they play a round robin. The top 3 in each group move to Division 3. The bottom 3 in each group move to Division 4.
Pool 3 consists of the other 11 returning teams and the remaining 9 new teams.
For Weeks 1-9 they are placed in two divisions of 10 and play a full round robin within their division.
Weeks 6-10
Divisions 1 and 2 are both two groups of 6. The top 2 in each Division 1 group progress to the play offs for the overall championships.
The top 2 in each Division 2 group progress to the play offs to compete for the Division 2 title.
Divisions 3 and 4 are both two groups of 6. The winners of each group compete for the division title in Week 11.
The Pool 3 teams continue to play their round robin, now renamed Division 5. The top 2 teams in each division progress to the play offs to be played in weeks 10 and 11.
Weeks 11-12
All teams not competing for the overall or a divisional title play placement games in weeks 11 and Division 1 and 2 teams will also play placement games in Week 12.
UK Structure
Teams are seeded based on previous performances.
The top 24 seeds will start in Division 1, the next 24 start in Division 2, the next 24 start in Division 3 and the remaining 32 start in Division 4.
Stage 1 – Weeks 1-5
Divisions 1-3
The 24 teams placed in each division of 4 pools of 6 teams play a round robin. In Division 1 the bottom 2 teams in each pool are relegated to Division 2. In Division 2 the top 2 teams are promoted to Division 1 and the bottom 2 are relegated to Division 3. In Division 3 the top 2 teams are promoted to Division 2 and the bottom 2 teams relegated to Division 4. Final positions in groups are used for seedings for stage 2.
Division 4
32 teams are in Division 4, for the first two weeks they play games against random opponents to determine seedings.
From weeks 3-5 the 32 teams are be placed in 8 groups of 4 and play a round robin.
The winners of each group get promoted to Division 3 and the team that comes bottom of each group are be moved to a new Division 5.
Stage 2 – Weeks 6-10
Divisions 1-4 each consist of 24 teams as 4 seeded pools of 6 teams and play a round robin.
In Division 1 the top 2 teams in each group qualify for the quarter-finals and in Divisions 2-4 the group winners qualify for the semifinal.
Division 5 consists of one group of 8 teams who play a round robin over weeks 6-12.
Stage 3 Weeks 11-13
In Division 1 the top 2 in each group qualify for the play offs and compete in a single elimination bracket to determine the COQL UK champions.
The teams who finished 3rd-6th play placement games in weeks 11-13 to determine final positions.
In Divisions 2-4 the group winners qualify for the semi finals and compete in a single elimination bracket to determine the division champions.
Teams finishing 2nd-5th play placement games in weeks 11 and 12 to determine final positions.
Division 5 sees its 8 teams playing a round robin from Weeks 6-12 so there are be no playoffs. Whoever wins the division will the Division champion.
