Nothing official is planned, but there’s bound to be plenty of socialising and informal quizzing in the hotel bar and the local Wetherspoons. We are open to anyone suggesting social activities they can lead for this point, so let us know if you have any ideas.
Friday 30th July
Casual football games
We will provide full details closer to the event, but it is likely that we all attend the Manchester PowerLeague pitches for a friendly tournament of 5 or 7 a side football (dependant on how many people sign up). If you are interested in participating in the football then indicate this on your registration form and you will be contacted prior to the event.

Individual Subject Quizzes
12:30pm-6:30pm There are three time slots, each of which has three subjects for you to choose from. These are written quizzes, played solo, over 75 questions each. The top ten finishers on each subject will play a head to head eliminator on the stage to determine each subject’s champion..
We may need to switch the rooms about should the number of registrations require this, but the times for each event will not change.

8:15 p.m.- 10:00 p.m. – SpeedQuizzing Pairs Quiz The International Suite will be full as we prepare to crown our SpeedQuizzing Pairs Champions. You may select your own partner for this quiz, but we will find you someone to play with if you need.
10:30 p.m. – late – Karaoke! More details to be confirmed in due course. If this event interests you, please indicate it on your registration form.
10:30 p.m – late – Redtooth SmartPhone quiz. If karaoke is not your scene or if you just can’t get enough of quiz, Dave Bill will be hosting a smartphone quiz using Redtooth’s SmartQuiz software in the Portland Suite.
Saturday 31st July
9 a.m. Parkrun. Any quizzers who also want to exercise their body as well as their brain can join us to attend a local parkrun. If the parkrun appeals to you then please indicate this on your registration form.
1 a.m. – 2 p.m. OQL’s Live VIII Individual Quiz We start the morning’s quizzing with the July edition of our Live VIII individual written quiz competition, with 240 questions spread over eight subject areas
4 p.m.-7 p.m. OQL Regions Championship – Lauren Hamer hosts the centrepiece of the Weekender, a 100 question team quiz constructed by OQL’s editing legend Rob Hannah. Players will represent their chosen regions, in teams organised by OQL using the information supplied on your sign up forms. The Oxfordshire Dons will be hot favourites after back to back wins; will you be able to stop them?
8:30 p.m. until late – Join Ian Aitkenhead, Bonni Champou and Dave Bill for the live quiz game show Cash for Questions, on the International Suite stage. Information about buying your raffle tickets to play to win cold hard cash will appear nearer the time.
Sunday 1st August
10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Multimedia TV Quiz. This will be a multimedia quiz written and hosted by Dave Bill and Morgan Bush. Dave and Morgan will guide you through the history of television with their multimedia quiz, where every question is accompanied by a video clip, image or sound clip.
12 noon – 1 p.m. – Connections Online Quiz League Live quiz. A spin-off from our long-running competition, based on the BBC’s Only Connect. All teams will play all the questions at the same time to see who will be named champions.
2:45 p.m. – 5 p.m. – Lewis Jones’ Big Fun Pub Quiz to close out the weekend, featuring all sorts of clever rounds and nonsense that he’s dreamt up this time.
Other Activities
Open all weekend for players to drop in as and when.
- Chill out room – need a break from quiz and/or people? Come and sit in the chill out room. It has comfy sofas and no noise; perfect for anyone needing to take some time to themselves.
- Board game room – Need a break from quiz but want to keep socialising? This room will be set up for some board games, some quiz, some fun. Feel free to bring your own games to add to those provided.
- Buzzer quiz room – A room with a buzzer set and a load of buzzer quiz questions. Just drop in on your own or in a group and play some buzzer quizzes whenever you want.
