Hotel

We will be taking over the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly for the weekend of 30th July to 1st August 2027. The Mercure is experiencing further refurbishment between now and the 2027 Weekender, so you can expect excellence throughout the hotel. This venue offers accommodation for attendees and conference rooms in which all our quizzes will be played. We recommend that you book in to this hotel for ease of access to the quiz events and we have negotiated a special event discount. However, it is not compulsory and attendees are free to stay wherever they wish.

Rates

By the time of the 2027 event, the Mercure will have rebranded as “Lyf, Manchester Piccadilly”. Their booking system for next summer is not currently active, however, there will be a code available which will entitle attendees of the event to discounted hotel rates.

In the meantime, the hotel have blocked out some rooms for exclusive sale to attendees of the OQL British Quiz Weekender at the following rates, all of which include breakfast: –

Please note, we currently only have 35 rooms available at these rates for each night, so please book them early to avoid disappointment.

If booking the above rooms, you will need to make payment at the time of your booking using a credit or debit card. However, you can cancel your room and receive a full refund, provided this is actioned prior to 56 days before the date of your first night at the hotel. Any cancellations made after this time will be subject to a charge, which is imposed at the discretion of the hotel.

There will be a separate system allowing guests to book rooms at the hotel using an online portal without having to phone the hotel or use the above code. However, due to the hotel receiving a rebrand, their system is not currently operation. Once this is in place we will announce it and provide details of how to book those rooms online.

Food

Breakfast is included in any of the blocked of rooms listed above. Should you book separately of that block you can also add breakfast to your booking when completing your booking. Lunches are also purchasable but this is done through OQL and should be included in your registration.

Lunch can be booked for Saturday and/or Sunday. There are two options. For £16 you can order a grab bag which will contain sandwiches, fruit, chocolate, crisps and drink and will cost £16 per day. These will be collected from a central location and eaten wherever you choose.

The second option is a hot buffet at £20 to be eaten in the on site restaurant. The menu changes weekly so at this time we cannot guarantee what will be available on the buffet. If ordering lunches please ensure you advise us of any dietary requirements when making your booking. Lunches must be booked and paid for in advance of the event and can be purchased alongside your ticket or at a later date.

Please note, if there are not enough attendees who purchase the hot buffet, the hotel may have to change this to give you a £20 food and drink voucher in the hotel.

To take advantage of one of our set room rates, you can follow the instructions above.

Check-in time for the hotel is 3 p.m., however, if your room is available earlier you will be able to check in but this is entirely at the hotel’s discretion. If you are unable to check into you room prior to the commencement of the quizzes you are able to leave your possessions in a safe room.

Check-out time is 11 a.m.. If you are checking out on Sunday but attending the Sunday quizzes you will be welcome to leave your luggage in the safe room or at the side of the International Suite.

Parking and public transport

There is parking at the hotel but it is charged at a rate of £20 per 24 hours. Blue Badge holders will be entitled to free parking all weekend in the hotel car park.

Due to the price of parking we recommend attendees travel by train. The hotel is approximately 5 minutes walk from Manchester Piccadilly Station which has fantastic rail links to pretty much anywhere in mainland UK.
